Saturday March 5th was an auspicious day in the life of Beech Hill. Not only was it the day of the annual 'Brian of Beech Hill' competition, a team based quiz in which local people pit their wits against each other for the 'Brian of Beech Hill' trophy, it was also the day that marked the end of activities in the old memorial hall and the move to the outstanding new memorial hall that has been taking shape on the same site over the last year.
People gathered in the old hall for a farewell toast and heard chair of Beech Hill parish council, Mike Methven, pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of the memorial hall committee in getting the project off the ground and completing such a splendid new building. Following the toast and a few nostalgic moments whilst people recalled the many happy events that have taken place in the old hall over the years, the assembled crowd of over 60 moved over into the new hall to take their places for the quiz. Quizmaster Graham Bell had compiled a challenging mixed bag of questions which ranged from Abba and the Spice Girls, through to 1940s' films, politics and local geography. The contest was robustly fought and contestants were fortified by pizza and dips laid on by Sam Moore, Amanda Walters and Gill Grahame.
At the end of the evening Wheebells emerged as the winning team, closely followed by It's Wizard. Everyone had a lot of fun and there was general agreement that the new hall is a superb facility.
